Prairie Engineering Ltd successfully conducted an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the proposed conversion of approximately 1,500 hectares of land from ranching to sugarcane cultivation utilizing centre pivot and drip irrigation systems on Farm No. Rem 231A and 232A, Bantabury in Mazabuka for Kaleya Smallholders Company Limited.
The project involved comprehensive environmental and social baseline studies, stakeholder consultations, assessment of potential environmental and social impacts, irrigation and water resource evaluations, biodiversity assessments, and the development of mitigation and environmental management measures in compliance with the requirements of the Zambia Environmental Management Agency.
Following the successful completion and submission of the ESIA, the project received approval from ZEMA, and the client is currently implementing the project. Prairie Engineering Ltd continues to provide environmental advisory and compliance support to ensure sustainable project implementation and adherence to regulatory requirements.
