ESIA - Decision Letter

Prairie Engineering Limited successfully prepared the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the proposed conversion of approximately 1,500 hectares of land from ranching to sugarcane cultivation utilizing centre pivot and drip irrigation systems at Bantabury Farm in Mazabuka District. The project, undertaken on behalf of Kaleya Smallholder Company Limited, was developed to support sustainable agricultural expansion and increased sugarcane production in the region.

As part of the ESIA process, Prairie Engineering Limited conducted comprehensive environmental and social assessments to identify potential impacts associated with the proposed development and recommend practical mitigation measures to ensure sustainable project implementation. The assessment included baseline environmental studies, stakeholder consultations, water resource assessments, biodiversity considerations, socio-economic evaluations, and development of environmental management and monitoring plans.

Following the submission and review of the ESIA report, the project was successfully approved by Zambia Environmental Management Agency, confirming that the proposed development met the required environmental and regulatory standards subject to compliance with specified conditions.

The approval represents a significant milestone for the project and demonstrates Prairie Engineering Limited’s commitment to delivering high-quality environmental consultancy services that support sustainable development, regulatory compliance, and responsible investment.
